Operation: Badland - MISSION FAILED
Operation: Badland - MISSION FAILED
Combined Operation: CJTF, ASIO, NZSIS, CIA, DEVGRU
Written by Lt. Taylor "Stood" Lewis
Location: Regero, Bolivia, South America
SEE BOTTOM FOR AFTER ACTION REPORT
Situation:
3 days ago ASIO and NZSIS were tipped off to a large-scale weapons shipment moving through Bolivia by a mid-level gun runner named Gabriel Rodriguez. Nobody from the intelligence community has spoken to this guy before, he approached us out of the blue so whatever this guy is spooked about must be something big, that's what the CIA thinks, and if that's what they're saying I'm inclined to believe them.
Mission:
It was our find so we’re getting involved. Still, it’s America's backyard and they’ll be able to act on Gabriel’s intelligence better than we can so we’ll provide cover and support. At the same time, DEVGRU Operators make contact at the rendezvous and extract with Gabriel.
Nothing should go wrong but a Mid-level gun runner snitching is bound to aggravate some of his more radical customers. I wouldn't count on them sitting idle.
-- Gabriel Rodriguez --
Execution and Considerations:
Undercover, Subtle.
When we're in the country we want to raise as few eyebrows as possible until we need to. that means we can't bring in our weapons and equipment. Buy clothes, weapons, and vehicles from the host nation country only, DEVGRU operators will be doing the same for the most part. Try to blend in with the population as much as possible.
- Civilian attire
- No Body Armour, ballistic Helmets or Rigs
- No Visble Weapons
- Do not exceed 20kg of equipment
- 3rd world weapons only, Including Attachments and ammo
If your cover is blown, avoid major population centers, that means people, People means eyes, and employ evasion techniques.
After Action Report:
After being engaged by local Gangs all DEVGRU operatives were surrounded and killed, CJTF attempted to intervene but they were too late. HVT Gabriel Rodriguez fled into a canyon towards his hideout. CJTF was tasked to pursue and extract Gabriel Rodriguez instead of DEVGRU agents. CJTF fought through the canyon but was ultimately too late as Bolivian BOPE and local Police surrounded both sides of the canyon and detained 3 Operatives along with Gabriel Rodriguez. During the surrounding of CJTF, one operative resisted arrest and was killed, another was able to make it to the extraction point, and another retreated back to the CIA Safehouse.
Repercussions:
The resulting Diplomatic incident had long-lasting repercussions. US Special Forces command was blasted in the media for months as footage of the incident made its way online, Congress opened an Inquiry, and a full investigation was launched into leadership malpractice.
The CIA safehouse was scuttled and set back operations in the area for months resulting in a pullout of CIA in that region of Bolivia.
Gabriel Rodriguez was found dead in his cell a day after he was taken into police custody. As a direct result of CJTF's failure to extract Gabriel Rodriguez the large shipment of arms moving through South America went uninvestigated and as a result a Chinese ultranationalist plot was allowed to flourish uncontested, and a new even more anti-western government took office.
With the new Chinese government in effect, they have begun reaching out to Iran, Russia, and a few African nations to construct an organization to directly oppose NATO and rest of the Western world.
